There are plenty of Apps out there; so many in fact it can be hard to keep up with what’s new, interesting and most of all, useful. So we’ve decided to get our tech-heads on to put some of the latest drinks-based Apps to the test. Starting with Bitters HD from Angostura Limited…

Now this we like. A lot. We admit we’re huge fans of the brand – why wouldn’t we be? It produces a portfolio of mighty fine rums and while our spirits preferences have changed over the years, its two types of bitters – orange and aromatic – have been permanent fixtures in our home bar/kitchen.
The App itself is cleanly designed and easy to navigate taking in short, snappy background essentials like key dates in cocktail history right through to details of glassware and tools for the professional bartender. There are also sections on each of the five expressions of Angostura rums and the lowdown on the how, what, why of Angostura bitters.

But the main focus is the recipes, each with either Angostura Orange or Aromatic bitters at the core. Featuring pretty much every tipple that tickles your fancy, including champagne, tequila, gin and of course, rum, the recipes range from simple non-alcoholic libations such as the fantastically thirst-quenching Lemon Lime & Bitters, aka LLB (lemon-lime soda, Angostura aromatic bitters), to show stoppers boosted with alcohol including The Runway (Angostura aromatic bitters, Batavia Arrack, rye whiskey, orgeat syrup, lemon juice).
Free to download from the App and Google Play Stores, the Bitters HD app is a priceless addition to your cocktail library, particularly as it’s the only one of its kind related to bitters-based drinks. Simply log in with your Apple ID/password or play store ID/password, search ‘bitters’, then get busy with your shaker.
