Did you know today (26th May) is World Sherry Day? Possibly not as it’s the first one ever, which is more of a reason to crack open a bottle and get acquainted with one of Spain’s finest exports.
Forget any connotations of little old ladies nursing a glass of sweet sherry at Christmas, we’re talking about the proper stuff: dry, refreshing and palate-cleansing – the perfect aperitif and buffer in between courses. In fact, a study at King’s College, London states that the dryness of one brand of sherry in particular – Tio Pepe – causes the mouth to water, thus ‘cleaning’ the taste receptors so that they are able to appreciate flavours more keenly. Which is why it’s the ideal accompaniment to the many and varied flavours vying for attention in traditional tapas.
We have a fantastic Tio Pepe Sherry Hamper to give away to one lucky reader. Just drop us a line here, making sure to sign up for our newsletter and marking the subject box ‘I love sherry’.
Winners will be announced on Tuesday 30th May. In the meantime, you can raise a glass to World Sherry Day at one of these five fab tapas venues in London:
