Perhaps the youngest of the classics coming on to the scene sometime in the late 1980’s. It has good credentials having been drunk by Material Girl Madonna and Carrie & Co in ‘Sex And The City’. More importantly the Cosmo was popularised by the great Dale DeGroff and was a one-time fave of Ms S.
Our Tips:
Although most recipes agree on the basics, there are a couple of things worth trying out. You can use any good quality vodka but we find that a citrus vodka adds a little more depth and interest. Some recipes call for a twist of lemon, others a wedge of lime. We prefer orange peel in our version to bring out the flavour of the Cointreau. By all means try to flame the orange peel but be warned: this takes a bit of practice and lots of confidence.
Ingredients:
2 ounces citrus vodka
1 ounce Cointreau
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce cranberry juice
Orange peel
Method:
Put all liquid ingredients in a shaker with plenty of ice and give a good shake. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Rim the glass with the orange peel and drop in, or, if you’re feeling brave, ‘flame’ the orange peel before dropping in.
