Whether it’s in a Martini, a Tom Collins, a Fizz or a good old G&T, gin has a special place in every Cocktail Lover’s heart (and in their drinks cabinet). That’s why we’re thrilled to celebrate World Gin Day in London this Saturday, with a generous measure of gin-based cocktails and events popping up across the city.
Here’s just a few ways to get your juniper on this weekend – take a look at some of drinks on offer in the capital, and the places to taste them. Chin-chin!
Dill or No Dill at The Blind Pig
Tanqueray gin, lemon juice, elderflower syrup, cucumber water and smoked salt
Garnished with a fragrant sprig of fresh dill, this pun-tastic concoction is one of the signature cocktails on offer at Jason Atherton’s The Blind Pig. Light and perfectly balanced, it’s sure to put a spring in your step.
The Ikebana at German Gymnasium
Tanqueray 10, elderflower cordial, matcha and lemon juice
Yes, that’s a real orchid garnish and yes, it is edible. Guests at German Gymnasium can sample this Japanese art-inspired drink all summer – and it’s only £7 during their weekday ‘Flower Hour’ between 5-7pm.
Hoppy Gin at Pollen Street Social
Hoppy Gin, Deck & Donohue IPA, fresh passion fruit and sage
As a World Gin Day exclusive, cocktail connoisseurs can try this new beer-paired spirit at Pollen Street Social’s gin bar. While you’re there, take a look at the other 62 gins and 3 genevas on offer, and see just how versatile old Mother’s Ruin can be.
The Mowgli Cocktail at Old Bengal Bar’s Jungle Book terrace
Tanqueray Gin, Yellow Chartreuse, Vida Mezcal, pineapple juice, elderflower cordial, lemon juice and thyme
Like Disney, but more grown up; creating a rumble in the jungle this Saturday, the floppy haired Rudyard Kipling hero is the inspiration behind this wild cocktail. Enjoy the light and fruity mix surrounded by greenery on the ‘Jungle Book Terrace’ – the flower garnish is edible, too.
The Petrichor at Berner’s Tavern Bar
Plymouth gin, Earth cordial
London wouldn’t be London without unseasonable rain in June, something the Berner’s tavern gang have picked up on. With earthy elements of angelica and pine, the Petrichor is designed to mimic the smell of rain, so let your nose explore and don’t worry too much about the weekend weather forecast.
VOGUE100 Punch at Punch Room, Fitzrovia
Tanqueray 10, Bergamot juice, Champagne, Perfume syrup (top note: basil, middle: lavender, base: tobacco), Lipstick foam (vanilla, iris/violet)
So stylish, so chic, so elegant yet daring. This creation from the team at The London EDITION just screams sophistication – stirred up in celebration of the fashion magazine’s centenary year, it’s available for a limited time only.
