Lush setting, comfy sofa, good film, great cocktails, surely the ingredients for magic movie moments don’t get any better than that? Actually, yes they do. At the Electric Cinema on 16th December all four boxes are ticked plus you get that something extra that transforms cinema-going into a whole new luxury experience.
Called Edible Cinema, it’s the result of an inspired collaboration between Bombay Sapphire’s expert mixologist Sam Carter, the folk at Soho House, experience organiser Polly Betton and experimental food designer Andrew Stellitano. And this is one film you won’t want to miss. Never mind whether When Harry Met Sally is one of your favourites or not, it certainly gets the ‘aah’ factor going which makes it ideal for this schmaltzy time of year.
The setting certainly helps. Always cool in a shabby-chic kinda way, the Electric Cinema has been spruced up and now boasts blood-red leather armchairs with matching footstools as well as horizontal ‘beds’ at the front of the auditorium. But it’s in the taste department that this event comes into its own. On arrival, guests will be greeted with a Bombay Big Apple cocktail incorporating Bombay Sapphire, apple schnapps, cloudy apple juice, apple bitters and cider, inspired by the location of the film. And forget 3D, Edible Cinema takes film to a fourth dimension by introducing a very refined version of scratch and sniff with a series of numbered boxes to be opened and consumed during specific moments of the screening.
Fancy it? Of course you do. Tickets cost £52 for 2 (front row sofa); £28 (armchair and footstool); £60 for 2 (back row sofa) including film, cocktail and taste experiences.
