There’s nothing like a bit of Shakespeare to make you feel all poetic. With this in mind the Rooftop Restaurant and Bar in Stratford have come up with two limited-edition Valentine’s cocktails inspired by the most romantic and tragic of the Bard’s plays, Romeo and Juliet
The Juliet (or Smoked Rose) is a beguiling concoction of spiced rum, creme de mure, smoked blueberries, a maraschino cherry and rose bud infused syrup, served in a martini glass. It’s absolutely perfect for lovestruck damsels. Budding Romeos have a drink named after the tragic hero, the Romeo (or Dark Rose) which mixes calvados, apple, lime juice and violet infused syrup. Don’t be put off by the blood red colour – think of it as a tribute to St. Valentine rather than the young lovers tragic end…
£7.50 each or £14 for the pair; available in the RSC Rooftop Restaurant and Bar, Stratford-upon-Avon, from Fri 11 Feb to Mon 14 Feb 2011. www.rsc.org.uk
