Who would have thought that Marmite would ever become the ingredient du jour in cocktails? Andrea Montague used it to great effect in her clever ‘Marmageddon’ at Callooh Callay (tequila, fresh lime juice, agave syrup, beer. And Marmite); it makes an appearance in the ‘Himitsu’ cocktail on the menu at NeNe at Chrysan (citrus vodka, maple syrup, blackberry and raspberry liqueur. And Marmite), now it’s coming to the cocktail list at the world’s best bar, the Artesian at The Langham from 9th December. Get ready for the Marmite Gold Rush…
This one is a little different though; it’s made with Marmite Gold, the limited-edition, pimped-up version of the yeast extract containing festive flecks of real edible gold. The taste is also a force to be reckoned with: grapefruit juice, vodka, sugar cane syrup and a barspoon of Marmite Gold drizzled around the rim, served with a teapot of Marmite flavoured steam. Just the ticket after checking out the Marmite Oxford Street lights round the corner.
Available from 9th December for one month only at the Artesian, 1c Portland Place, W1B 1JA. T: 020 7636 1000. artesian-bar.co.uk. Priced £15.
