Frank Lloyd Wright
“I didn’t know much about Frank Lloyd Wright beyond the fact that he was American architect and I just had this sketch of him as a cantankerous, very particular, work alcoholic, micro manager, megalomaniac. Then one day I visited the Martin House Complex, his residential masterpiece, and got lost walking in the grounds. It looked as fresh as it had done when he designed it in 1907. I really liked the way it broke down barriers to combine nature within his designs.
I wanted to do the same with my drink bringing together the natural green of the celery with the other ingredients. The celery is a bright and savoury flavour representing a fresh environment, and this worked well with the smoke of the mescal which represents a smokey neibourhood.
He made me much less afraid of just looking at my immediate area for influence. The cocktail, Green Girder, is also about paying tribute to our neighbourhood.”
