It’s oh-so simple to make and pretty damned delicious in the taste department, plus, it makes any occasion feel just a little bit more sexy. What’s not to love about a Champagne Cocktail?
Champagne Cocktail
This drink has been around for around 150 years and in that time there’s thankfully not been much messing around with it. Apart from the garnish… There’s been an orange twist, lemon twist or both, there’s even been a maraschino cherry, but the dream team of cognac, bitters, sugar and fizz remains. If you’re feeling particularly fancy go with Champagne (we’re rather fond of Pol Roger Brut Reserve Non-Vintage which sits very nicely alongside the H by Hine) but a decent sparkling wine will still do the trick nicely.
Ingredients
30ml H by Hine cognac
1 sugar cube
3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
Champagne or sparkling wine to top
Orange twist garnish
Method
Carefully soak the sugar cube with the bitters, drop it into a chilled Champagne flute and add the H by Hine. Gently top up with the Champagne or sparkling wine. Garnish with the orange twist.
Alternative serve
Garnish-wise some people prefer the brightness of a twist of lemon rather than orange. Or you could dispense with the citrus altogether and drop in a maraschino cherry for a little extra luxe.
