The Cocktail Lovers Magazine Issue 48

It’s all about the whisk(e)y

ByThe Cocktail Lovers

Saturday 16th May is World Whisk(e)y Day. Which is fabulous, obvs but what’s the best way to celebrate such a sociable occasion when you can’t get out to your favourite bar?

We advise pouring your favourite dram, or better still, discovering a new one (see below), and signing up for the World Whisk(e)y Summit, very special event hosted by That Boutique-y Whisky Company, taking place tomorrow (16th May) at 7pm GMT.

Join the impressive line-up of whisky experts including distillers Nicole Austin (George Dickel Tennessee Bourbon Distillery), Patrick van Zuidam (Zuidam Distillery) and David Vitale (Starward Distillery); as well as some of our favourite writers including Dave Broom (The Whisky Manual), Becky Paskin (co-founder of Our Whisky), Kristianne Sherry (Master of Malt), Neil Ridley and Joel Harrison (Distilled and Straight Up) and Charlie McCarthy (All About The Cocktail). Given the credentials of the panellists, you can bet the two-and-a-half hour session will be informative but as there are also whisky-themed games on the menu, it promises to be informal as well.

The Zoom event is free to join but a voluntary donation to the Drinks Trust is encouraged. Find out more and sign up here

UPDATE: The Zoom session is now sold out but you can follow all the action on the That Boutique-y Whisky Company Facebook Live page from 7pm (donations still apply!)

Looking for a new release for World Whisky Day? That Boutique-y Whisky Company have one for you: check out their World Whisky Blend (pictured above), made with craft distilleries from around the world. Available from Master of Malt.

Alternatively, it’s fastest fingers first for the limited-edition single cask 1994 25-Year-Old Island Malt from John Crabbie & Co, priced at £300 a pop. Only 247 bottles are available in the UK but trust us, they won’t be around for long. Email for details.
