Things we’re looking forward to this week…

Whoever said August was a quiet month certainly doesn’t live in London. And they most definitely do not partake in our vibrant cocktail scene. Which is great on one hand but bad news for Ms S who is on the second phase of her detox. Maybe sampling a cocktail or two from the tip of a straw might be in order…
Particularly on Monday when we’ll be previewing the new House Cocktails coming to the Zetter Townhouse menu later this week. Tony Conigliaro our favourite Flavourist will be hosting while Bruno Loubet from the Zetter will be providing fancy nibbles…
Tuesday sees us checking out the inventive entries in the Monin Cup Cocktail Competition. Some of the best bartenders in the UK will have eight minutes to whizz up an alcoholic and non-alcholic cocktail using one syrup and one puree from the range. It’s going to be tough as the winner will battling it out to pick up 500 smackers and a trip to Paris to represent the UK in the international finals…
We’re missing out on two fantastic events on Wednesday. One is the preview of the Worship Street Whistling Shop world-first: A History of Rum in the Multi-Sensory Cocktail Emporium taking in sight, smell, taste, sound and touch. The other is a cocktail making session with the lovely Joe McCanta at Saf. We’ll be consoling ourselves at a special birthday party instead (after passing up that little lot, needless to say it better be good…)
It’s a feast for the senses when the Bombay Sapphire crew team up with the Rebel Dining Society at Shoreditch Studios on Thursday. We’re told to expect five unique taste sensations, flights through edible fog and specially created cocktails. We can’t wait…
And Friday? That’s our review day. Who knows where we’ll end up…
Words to the wise
The history of rum is like Hollywood blockbuster. According to Dave Broom in his Complete Bartender’s Guide, “it takes in slavery, piracy, the American revolution, the rise of organised crime and anti-Communist politics. It makes every other spirit’s story seem rather bland and uneventful.” No wonder the Fluid Foundation chaps have chosen it for their first Multi-Sensory Experience…
