As far as restorations go, the soon-to-be-opened Savoy is hard to beat. Almost three years and a reputed £220 million later, it’s almost ready for business and yesterday we were lucky enough to be treated to a sneaky peak of its brand new bar.
Talk about glamorous, The Beaufort Bar is every inch the smouldering Hollywood diva – think unashamedly sexy jet black and burnished gold fittings and you’ve got the right idea. The highlight is the drop-dead gorgeous onyx bar perfectly positioned on the hotel’s original cabaret stage. It’s the ideal platform to see Chris Moore and his team mixing up their fantastic cocktails.

The jaw-droppingly good concoctions include the Winston: Hennessy XO, blood orange puree, quince liqueur, vanilla syrup and a muddled cigar. Everything about it is a winner, from the presentation (carefully positioned in an opened cigar box), the cigar garnish and the elegant glass. It’ll set you back £80 though, so be warned!
We also liked the Gilded Cage – two matching drinks for love birds served in an elegant birdcage. With its clever combination of Grey Goose vodka, yellow chartreuse, mandarin liqueur, fresh passionfruit, fresh mango, homemade cinnamon and pomegranate foam, it’s as stunning to look at as it is to drink. It’s good value too at £25 for two cocktails.

Lastly, we tried the Sorcerer (Grey Goose, lemon, melon and watermelon foam.) We have to admit that its pink, frothy appearance made us think we were in for something sweet but actually, the drink is deliciously dry with a distinct melon taste coming through.
As much as we’re looking forward to the reopening of the iconic American Bar, this little beauty really impressed us. We can’t wait ’til 10.10.10 when it’s officially opened.
