Believed to have been created for Lady Randolph Churchill, the mother of Sir Winston, we recommend this wonderful cocktail if whisky is your spirit of choice.
Our tips:
There are basically three types of Manhattan: Sweet, Perfect and Dry. There are also (surprise, surprise) a stack of variations but as an introduction to this delightfully warming cocktail the Perfect Manhattan is a good place to start as it’s neither too sweet or, well, too dry.
Ingredients:
2 ½ ounces Canadian whisky (preferred), rye whisky or bourbon
½ ounce sweet vermouth
½ ounce dry vermouth
2 or 3 drops Angostura bitters
Lemon twist
Method:
Stir the liquid ingredients in a mixing glass with plenty of ice. Strain into your chilled cocktail glass. Run the lemon peel around the rim of the glass, squeeze it gently over the drink and drop it in.
