Day two and and we’re moving up a gear. First of all make sure you’ve registered at The Assembly Rooms and picked up your tickets and information for the next few days. While you’re there look out for your complimentary copy of The Cocktail Lovers Magazine.

So, what’s in store today? Plenty. Including drinks fromBuffalo Trace at Bryant & Mack Private Detectives.

Welcome Swizzle Bar by the House of Angostura

12pm-4pm
East Drawing Room, The Assembly Rooms. 54 George St, Edinburgh EH2 2LR.
Let’s face it, you’re already at The Assembly Rooms for registration, so we suggest sticking around for a little hospitality courtesy of the House of Angostura. It’s a chance to sample their signature cocktail, the Queens Park Swizzle, as well as some modern variations including the Amaro Espresso Swizzle and the Wild Thyme Swizzle. Prepare to be dazzled by swizzlogists Daniyel Jones and Summer Jane Bell.

Did you know?
Swizzles first made an appearance in Trinidad and other parts of the British West Indies as far back as the 18th century. Essentially they’re a category of crushed ice based drinks, beautifully bended with a swizzle stick rather than shaking or string. It’s nature’s own blender, long, slim and prong-like at the end, it comes from the Quararibea turbinate, aka the swizzle stick tree.

Buffalo Bourbon Empire

9.30pm – 11pm.
Bryant & Mack. 87-89 Rose St, Edinburgh EH2 3DT.

Buffalo Trace makes Bryant & Mack Private Detectives its home till Tuesday 4th. They’ll be bringing an extensive range of whiskey, including the last three vintages of the Antique Collection, and the 2016 Old Rip Van Winkle range, plus plenty more. And if you want to turn your whiskey into a cocktail, there’ll be a range of vintage vermouths dating back to the 1940’s.

Today Jason Coleman, Sazerac Brand Ambassador from New Orleans, will be teaming up with Bryant & Mack’s, Ross Bryant to deliver bourbon, Scottish creativity and classic New Orleans Style.

(Buffalo Trace will also be holding intimate tasting sessions for the trade each day at 3pm. To sign up and for more information see buffalotrace.co.uk/events.)

Did you know?

Buffalo Trace Distillery has been making bourbon whiskey the same way for over 200 years. The label should give you a clue about the story behind it: all hail the mighty buffalo who roamed through the wilderness, capturing the imagination of the early American pioneers who followed them and who’s spirit is still celebrated today in Buffalo Trace.

Bartending for Life/Guilty Pleasure: How to make ‘better’ drinks

3pm-4pm
Lululemon, George Street (opposite The Assembly Rooms)

Everyone should make time for this, however busy their schedules… Come and hear the lovely Libby Limon sharing her invaluable tips on balancing health and wellbeing in the drinks industry (yes, the two can mix!) She’ll also be giving advice on making lighter, sugar-free cocktails and talking about the benefits of yoga. All this plus treats too.

Did you know?

Belvedere Vodka have been working hard to promote wellness in the drinks industry long before others dared to talk about the subject or became savvy to the perils of sugar. Headed up by Claire Warner, then Head of Spirit Creation & Mixology at Belvedere Vodka, now Director of Spirits Eduction Moët & Hennessy, the team prides itself on keeping sugar in its cocktails to a minimum, opting for natural alternatives like sparkling water with fresh citrus, blended fresh fruit or a splash of coconut water instead.
