Did we mention that there was another way to make it to the World Class UK Final? No? Well, allow us to explain… For those who didn’t manage to bag the top prize in the regional semi-finals, there was the Wild Card system where participants could be one of the chosen few by getting discerning drinkers (okay, and maybe a few friends) to ‘like’ their rum, white spirits or tequila recipes in an open vote…
The idea was to give some of the best bartenders in the country one more chance to prove they really do have what it takes to be World Class. Let’s face it, we all have our off days. Or even more frustratingly, slip up on one essential detail when it really matters. Particularly when so much is at stake. This new category was a fantastic opportunity for ambitious barmen to dust themselves down, PR their own skills and focus on getting it absolutely spot-on when it counts.
Congratulations to Nelson Bernardes from Good Godfrey at The Waldorf, London who clocked up the most votes in the White Spirits section for his drink the Refined Madam; Antonino Lo loacno, from Rules, also in London with his tequila-based Screaming Viking and Cristina Andersson from Boho in Weymouth for her 62 Degrees Flip, laced with rum. Each one of them has made it their business to get through to the UK Finals like the others, with sheer determination and bloody hard work. Read more about them in their profiles coming in the next few days.
