Just over three weeks ago Jean Trinh and Paola Oviedo were at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans unveiling their documentary, a tear-jerker of a film that tells their story of building Alquímico and its connections with the community in Colombia. This week they’re asking for help – just like they’ve been helping countless others throughout their 10 years.
In case you missed it, on Monday (10th August) western Colombia was hit by an earthquake of 7.4 magnitude, its largest in years. The couple’s precious farm, the farm highlighted in the film that they and the Alquímico team built during the pandemic, has been affected, although in the grand scheme of things not as bad as other parts of the country.
Anyone who sat in on the documentary or know anything about Jean and Paola won’t be surprised to hear that they’ve wasted no time in providing aid. Since Tuesday they’ve been visiting and assisting the Embera Chamí community, the makers of the distinctive Alquímico necklaces – something they’ve resolved to do every day so they can do whatever they can. And they are calling on their friends in the drinks industry for support.
Without being overly dramatic but let’s face it, entirely necessary for context: this is Jean Trinh we’re talking about, someone who gives and has never asked for anything in return. And in true Jean fashion, he’s only doing it for others.
