Some people shop for essentials in Sainsbury’s, we do ours at Gerry’s liquor store in Soho. Which is handy because not only do we get to stock up our bar with the newest, most ingenious spirits, we also get to talk to a bunch of likeminded folk as well.
Take this weekend for example. While perusing the shelves we met up with Paul Bungener, Brand Ambassador for Fair Vodka. This is the world’s first Fair Trade vodka – in fact, the company is the first Fair Trade spirits brand in the world. Not only that, this is the only vodka made with quinoa grains in its formula. Naturally we had to give it a taste… Thankfully, it’s good. Very good in fact. Apparently there’s tequila, a coffee liqueur and more in the pipeline too – all Fair Trade. Paul describes them as ‘great spirits with heart’. Well, he’s right there – we love the philosophy and the taste.
