Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming is back for 2019, and this year the theme is From Farm to Glass. A global event gathering bartenders from around the world, attendees will learn about Irish whiskey in its home, sharing moments with fellow bartenders, making friends and, for some, competing. Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming aims to educate and inspire, while connecting bartenders from all corners of the globe.
This event is so much more than just dreaming up a tasty drink… Of course, that’s part of it too, but where it differs from most cocktail comps is both the programmes offered to bartenders throughout the event, and how the cocktail itself comes together. It all starts with passionate bartenders from around the world collaborating with their local communities, meeting local makers and craftsmen for From Farm to Glass inspiration.
Next, they’re tasked with taking inspiration from their unique surroundings to experiment with the individual characteristics of Jameson Irish Whiskey to create a brand-new cocktail serve.
And for a lucky few it will mean heading to the global Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming event in Ireland, where the overall winner will take part in a one-year global partnership with Jameson to develop a project supporting their local community – all backed by Jameson, who will provide up to €20,000 towards the project. Not bad, eh?
Following the cocktail creation element of the gathering, attendees will continue to learn with educational sessions and incredible craftsmen at the global event in Ireland.
From Farm to Glass
Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming kicks off globally in nearly 30 countries, including the UK, USA, Malaysia, Brazil and Sweden.
It all starts with exciting local events, designed to bring together local bartenders and introduce them to the From Farm to Glass ethos through a series of educational sessions on Irish whiskey, along with presentations on bartender wellbeing linking to the theme.
International cocktail experts Oisin Davis and Andre Duncan will lead a seminar, Grow Your Own Cocktail, showing bartenders how to source and forage for local ingredients, grow them in their bar and use them in the most efficient way.
Moreover, the bartenders will have a very special opportunity to claim a place at the global event taking place in Ireland from 23 to 26 June through the unique cocktail competition.
Destination Ireland
Having demonstrated their skills and craftsmanship in their home countries, the winning bartenders will arrive in Ireland for the money-can’t-buy experience – Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming.
Over a packed few days the bartenders will experience educational seminars and enjoy some legendary Irish hospitality. And at the heart of proceedings will be the global cocktail competition, guaranteed to bring out the best of international skills. Competing bartenders will be tasked with creating a full menu including drinks, glassware and the menu itself – no mean feat. Bartenders will also be tested on their familiarity with classic Irish cocktails, as well as stepping into the spotlight to share their new From Farm to Glass serves.
Partner with Jameson to support your local community
The winning bartender will have a unique opportunity to give something back to the local community that inspired them in the creation of their new cocktail. The very special prize on offer will be a chance of winning a once-in-a-lifetime partnership with Jameson Irish Whiskey to develop a project in support of their home community with funding of up to an amazing €20,000.
How to enter
To be in with a chance of heading to Ireland bartenders must first take place in their local events.
Here the task is for them to create a simple cocktail that brings to life the idea of From Farm to Glass using the uniquely smooth flavour of Jameson Irish Whiskey, Jameson Black Barrel or Jameson Caskmates.
As part of the theme, bartenders have to show an understanding of what makes their local community special, through ingredients, people and knowledge, utilising this as inspiration for their new Jameson cocktail.
Are you ready for From Farm to Glass?
OK bartenders, it’s time to take a look around your local community, get inspired and reach for a bottle of Jameson. Who knows? You may well be on your way to the home of the legendary Irish whiskey itself!
